Lares Trek to Machu Picchu

$0.00/From

In an adventure through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, passing through the rich pastoral regions of the Urubamba mountain range we will cross snowy peaks and subtropical valleys, along the trip we enjoy scenic lagoons, natural thermal baths, Inca remains. Because it is a remote place, the area has allowed its people to preserve traditions of lama and alpaca wool, the cultivation of potatoes, and the weaving of colorful handmade garments with Inca motifs. This tour is experiential because you can see up close the customs and experiences of the Andean people  in Lares. Lares is a community hosted in the Peruvian Andes very famous for its fabrics and its welcoming people, we will have the opportunity to share our experience and observe their techniques of dyeing and weaving and having the opportunity to visit the impressive "Balcony of the Sacred Valley Of the Incas"  which is rich of variety of cultures. Let's enjoy the direct connection with the Inkas heirs, where the Sacred River helps to produce the best qualities of corn and potatoes in the whole world. Lares surrounded by magnificent snow-capped peaks and many hot springs. Andean families maintain their Inca customs, their original clothing and traditional agriculture, lamas and alpacas help their main activity. This trek is ideal for travelers that will take you through the rural communities in the impressive Sacred Valley of the Incas. We enjoy a great variety of flora, fauna, wildlife and spectacular landscapes! The last day we are rewarded with the magnificent sunrise in the Historic Sanctuaryof Machupicchu.

Quick Itinerary:

  • Day 02: Huacawasi - Ipsaycocha - Patacancha
  • Day 03: Patacancha - willoq - Pumamarca - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes
  • Day 04: Machu Picchu - Cusco

What walk do? Comparisons between Lares and Salkantay

Both tours are found in the high Andes. Salkantay actually ends at Machu Picchu (well, very close - in Santa Teresa, only a few kilometers away), while the Lares trek does not end at Machu Picchu usually / sometimes it ends at Huaran and then you  have to take the train from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu, remember this tour ends at Aguas Calientes where we will take the bus to climb to Machu Picchu. Salkantay has a good view of snowy mountains, for example Huamantay and Salkantay, but it descends in the damp brow forest near Santa María. Lares has much less tourist influx than Salkantay and you go through a couple of very traditional villages. Lares has stunning views of lakes and very beautiful waterfalls. Lares has excellent thermal waters  but there are also hot springs in Santa María and Aguas Calientes ..Neither the Salkantay nor  Lares route has ruins while the traditional Inca Trail does count.

Macchu Picchu  is the best  inca recint known and most spectacular archaeological park on the continent, considered by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It was discovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911, it is said that his discovery was by chance because what he was really looking for was the city of Vilcabamba, last refuge of the Incas and last point of resistance against the Spaniards. Formerly known as Picchu, this legendary place in Peru counted in colonial times with something like two parts, the old, "Machu" and "Wayna", the young; Picchu on the other hand means simply "Hill", and from the whole its name comes up: "old hill" There were not many people who lived in the citadel, perhaps no more than 200 or 300 and according to what they say, although hypothetically appropriate in the subject, almost all were linked to the lineage of the Incas or at least of high rank. What if there is no doubt is that all this construction was essentially a kind of sanctuary of abundant wealth and for that reason considered very important, erected in the vicinity of Cusco.
